Hello all and thanks for taking your time to look at my post. I have a 2008 Chevy Cobalt 2.2 LT with 180,000 miles my check engine light recently came on and I had it scanned . the only code that comes up is P0496 High Purge Flow. The car runs fine just except when I stop to get gas then the car has trouble starting, it will take 3 or 4 times and then it usually stalls but once it starts up it idles up and down and sounds terrible for about 10 seconds or so then the car runs fine again until I stop to get more gas then same thing happens again. I have replaced the gas cap , the purge vent valve solenoid(by the gas tank in the canister) , the fuel tank pressure sensor and have also replaced the purge vent valve(on top of the motor) and I also have checked all the wiring and connectors to all the sensors and they all have juice going to them. and I'm still having the same issues with the car after getting gas and my check engine light is still on with the same code . ( I also cleared the code after replacing all the sensors and the gas cap but the light came back on with the same P0496 code) its starting to get frustrating that's why I'm here. I'm hoping someone out there might have some more insight from where I can go from here or maybe some steps I can take to test a thing or to? Thanks again in advance !

Disconnect the purge control valve (not the vent valve) electrical connector. Then disconnect the line that goes to the purge control valve from the charcoal canister. Start the engine and feel for vacuum on the end of the purge valve nipple. If you have vacuum, replace the purge control valve. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks a lot for the tip! I did exactly what you said and there was vacuum. I went back to auto zone and they traded the part in for a new one, I guess it has a lifetime warranty on it. I just put the new valve on about to take it a drive and see what happens.. Damn cheap parts.. Thanks again Discretesignals
