PO 442 Code on Toyota Camry Sign In

I have a 2002 Toyota Camry LE. (4 cylinder, Automatic). I have been having trouble check engine light for more than a year. It comes on randomly or at least comes on randomly.

The auto-part stores read the OBD-II code as PO 442 . I have changed the fuel tank cap in the last year. It is an after-market part from Autozone. The problem went away for about 6 months after I put the new cap. It has since returned.

Can a PO 442 be triggered by a dirty fuel injector? Is it worthwhile adding a fuel additive to clean the fuel injector? Is there any chance of this getting rid of PO 442?

Thanks!
Shane

You set code for a leak in "Evap Emission" is the code is probably quite slight. Gas caps can be the reason and may have been before or not? Anything in the system leaking or not working can set that. IDK - there's a switching valve on the list but check plain hoses, connection of them first as best you can. 2002 seems like yesterday but it's a long time ago now for rubber stuff even "fuel" tolerant grade which it must be,

You have a small leak in the EVAP system. That is the fuel tank and related hoses. The fuel tank has to be a sealed system for emissions reasons. It has nothing to do with fuel injectors.

The way these things are diagnosed is by using a smoke machine to find the leaks. It can be the gas cap or rotted hoses somewhere but it's pretty common to be a defective solenoid control valve in the system but you need the smoke test to find out.
