I have a 2000 chevy 5.7 350 dually and I keep getting this code for the egr valve. I did my research and I tried cleaning it before buying one cuase there so expensive. Well i when ahead and did that and I erased the code a day later the code returned so i said I'm just going to buy one, well I when to the auto zone slapped it on erased the code and it's back. My truck is running so rich it blows white smoke and I can smell and see the gas needle move as I drive. HELP!!! PLEASE

What was the exact code number that you're getting now?

Do you mean black smoke?
Cause white can be coolant getting into the cylinders.
Is this a vacuum controled EGR valve or the electronic one?
If it's vacuum make sure the EGR valve vacuum solenoid is working rite, you can also unhook the EGR valve and see if it makes a difference. Also try using a vacuum pump to manualy opperate the EGR valve, at idle if you Open the valve all the way the engine should stall or want to stall, and thats means the valves it's self and the EGR passage ways are good.
As for the electronic one you'll need a costly scan tool to test that.

Those of us that are familiar with this vehicle already know it is an electric EGR so please just post the code number and do nothing else yet.

I had a similar problem with my egr in my 2001 mustang and it turned out to be the egr position solenoid.

There is no such thing as a position solenoid. A position sensor is not used on this vehicle The valve is completely self contained.

It's none of the above in this case so please stop confusing the poster if you're not familiar with the system.
