Got a doosie for you guys, maybe you can help me.
I have a 2003 VW Golf GL 2.0L. Issue is that car won't start and is giving me trouble code (pending) P0321 for the engine speed sensor. Based on data found online, I replaced the crankshaft position sensor. Issue persisted so I went to the fuel pump and tested fuel pressure and replaced fuel filter, checked fuel flow. As far as I can tell, the vehicle is getting enough fuel to run.
When the sensor is unplugged, the car cranks but will not start. When the new sensor is installed, car turns over and immediately stalls. Voltage shows 2.52V between pins 1 and 2 and pins 1 and 3 (1 being ground) and it also shows a good ground connection to chassis via continuity. Did a scope check on the camshaft position sensor and it appeared to be providing normal (expected) output. Any thought as to what to try next aside from scrapping the car?

Fuel pressure is measuring at 35PSI, sorry if I was unclear there.

Do you have any type of security system indicators on or flashing?
Is it setting any other codes beside the P0321?
A pending code means that particular code is a 2 trip code and has only occurred once so far. What happens is you clear that code?

IDK as it playing hide on you when checked IMO.
Just surfing myself your tests shows "pending" high on the chances list was "Ignition/Distributor engine speed sensor circuit poor electrical connection" > That would surprise anyone @ 20-21 years old.
Starts right up then quits either anti-theft confused or "wiggling" its own wires?
Continuity showed ok try that again and wiggle wire.
Other IDK what assorted features a key has if you have another try it!
Seem your ready to scrap it over this YOU know the overall condition and miles already.
Just anyway, older stuff clean up grounds to body as many as you can find or trace to where might be surprise then look like crap now so probably are, Tom
