check eng light 03 chevy trailblazer

I have a 2003 chevy trailblazer with a 4.2L V6. 103517 miles. The check eng light came on. Isn't there a way to jump a couple of the post on the computer plug and count blinks of the check eng light to determine the fault code? does anyone know how to do this?

Nope, can't be done without a code reader but if you have an AutoZone near you, they will read them for free.

Okay I went to autozone and the problem is "cooling fan speed signal lost"
this means what?
do I have to replace the clutch fan?
can I install a flex fan?
what will happen if I just unplug it?
The car is running cool so I am sure the clutch is fine. The clutch is all mechanical right?
I really dont want to spend 200 + dollars right now.
what is your advice?
