dashboard lights Sign In

Hi, I have a 2002 nissan sentra gxe and the battery and brake lights on the dashboard keep coming on then after a while it goes off again. This has been going on for a few days. I dont think its my battery because my car starts up with no trouble at all. What could this be? Thank you

What is the charging voltage at the battery terminals when the lights are on?

I'm sorry but how do i check that? I looked at my battery terminals. Is there an indicator that would tell me?

Re: dashboard lights Sign In

You need a volt meter to check to see how much voltage is at the battery terminals. Practice testing your vehicle when the warning indicators aren't on, so you know what the voltages should look like. Good charging system voltages can range between 13.5 to 14.5 volts depending on the demand from the electrical loads in the system.

Re: dashboard lights Sign In

I took my car to autozone to have the battery checked and it was low. So the sales rep asked me if I wanted to leave it with them so they could recharge it. Long story short.... I did and when I came back after an hour or so, the finding was that the battery was bad. It wasnt charging enough. I didn't pay attention to the numbers, I just went ahead and bought a new one. Got back to my place, installed it and the car is running again. (My car almost stalled earlier today, lucky I was in the driveway when it died!!) Now my problem is the lights on the dashboard are still on. How do I reset my dashboard and I hope this is the only problem and not the alternator.

Those are 2 different issues. Which one was it?

You don't reset dashboards. You still have a problem.
