engine code P0316 Sign In

I took my 2005 taurus (70,000 mls) to a couple of trans guys to find out why it was slamming into gear. The code that comes up is P0733 (gear 3 incorrect ratio). One said the trans needed to be rebuilt, the other said it was a bad engine code that caused the wrong line pressure to be sent to the trans. I took the car to a mechinic and he found a P0316 engine service code (engine misfire). I was told that the coil pack is cracked and the plugs and wires are faulty. My question is, If I were to replace the coil pack would this correct both problems?

This sounds like an ASE certification test question. When ever you are dealing with performance issues you must correct the miss fire first. It may take care of the problem. But either way it needs to be fixed. Good luck

YES..YES..YES, I went ahead and replaced the coil pack ($75.00), and YES it did fix both error codes. Drove the car all weekend and not a single problem. The initial start up still seems a little rough, and the engine seems to over rev., but that could be due to the temps we've been having. Next step will be to replace wires and plugs.
Thanks for the advice Jeff, the local mech. wanted a small fortune for the repairs he said the car needed. At least this was something I was able to do myself.
