good morning all.. needing advice. 2008 toyota sequoia 130,000 miles

8 weeks ago my car would not start, i tried to jump it off and still not not start. it would try but very weak and just would not turn over. had it towed to my normal mechanic. eventullay he said it was the fuel pump. changed it out $950.00! still would not start and was throwing an ECU code. after 6 weeks of him trying to figure it out, i took it to toyota.

they determined it was a bad ECU after about two weeks in the shop. this whole time my friend kept telling me to have them check the battery cells. i suggested this to both mechanics and they kept saying it was good.

i finally picked up my car after spending a grand total of $2000.00 and 8 weeks without my car. the car died about an hour after picking it up. i took it back to toyota and again asked them to check the battery. all was good so i left. about another hour after that the car would not start. the same exact problem that caused the first trip to the mechanics. turn the key and it would automatically try to start without touching the key until it stopped.

had it towed back to toyota and they call saying it was a bad battery cell! replaced the battery and it runs perfect.

now, i feel like i got screwed all the way around. replacing the fuel pump and ecu obvisouly did not fix the problem, as the new battery did. i asked them several times to check the battery and they kept saying it was good. of course now I'm out 2K and have no way to prove anything. just wanting advice on this before calling toyota of america to complain.

Have your paper work? Why would a fuel pump make an engine not crank? If it didn't have a tank, pump or any of that engine wouldn't know and crank away. That's a total error on tech's part and testing battery cell by cell is only if each is accessible cell by cell and doubt many or any are anymore.

8 weeks and all this. Your call - begin with the service manager on up as need be with papers of what was diagnosed proven NOT the problem and see what you can do.

Side point: Why oh why did you put up with TWO months without a fix?

Yea makes sense to me what you said. I left it so long mostly due to waiting, as he was trying to communicate with Toyota and waiting for answers. The first mechanic anyway. He has been my mechanic for a very long time and trusted him. Regardless we have requested refunds from both parties and Toyota was decent enough to refund part, waiting on the other. Just seems like common sense to start checking the small stuff first before jumping into the high dollar stuff.

Actually it's not a progression of small stuff first it's incompetence. At a glance you needed a damn battery and in in TWO months and all the wrong work over a dead/bad battery! That's outrageous if what you said is in order.

No reason to believe jumping on you part when it all began didn't work. It frequently doesn't work and then was up to so called pros to figure out.

Look at your battery now. Can you see a way to access just one cell? NO. Been a while they are sealed up so you could test for it being bad but doubtful call it a bad cell so it messed up all along,

I asked several times if I needed to replace the battery because they kept having to "charge" it. I asked both places to check the battery. All reported the battery was fine. I agree incompintance indeed!! I knew from the get go it smelled fishy and appreciate your reply. Running like a top now.

It's just totally unfortunate. Good luck getting some agreement that satisfies you over it and move on.

I'll lock the thread as really solved now with no complaints from you right now. Keeps the spammer away. If you wish to open it again just ask any moderator,
