Please help! I have a 1994 Ford Bronco with 285,000. miles. I pulled the EEC IV codes with the help of way2old and Jim one of which I could figure out but the rest are a little more complicated can anyone help me? Ok #632 overdrive cancel switch not changing states (E-40D) next #538 system did not recive "goose" test or operator error or insufficent RPM range during KOER dynamic response test. next #536 Brake on/off circuit failure. switch not actuated during KOER test. and one more #116 engine coolant sensor (ECT) out of range. The truck is hard to start warm, i have to put the gas peddle to the floor to start it hot, at cold start it idles fine when it warms up it idles high (1300 RPMs) . any help would be appriciated.

Thanks

OK. Lets take these one by one.
632 means the overdrive button was not turned off and on during the specified period of time.
538 measn it did not detect a full throttle response during the specified period of time.
536 means the brake pedal was not depressed during the specified period of time.
116 means either the engine was not warm enough to properly run the test or the sensor is bad.

Try test again with engine fully warmed up. Then jump the connectors. Start vehicle. count to 10. step on brake and release, turn overdrive switch off and on(the button not the shifter), then turn the steering wheel 1/2 way and return. This will eliminate codes 632 and 536 you had. Then stomp the gas pedal all the way to the floor. That will eliminate 538 code. Then see if the ECT code comes back. If it does not come back, it sounds like the injectors are opening too much and flooding the engine. Let us know.

Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Thank you Way2old,

I think we got her, I followed your directions to the T, let me back up first I changed the ECT sensor $24.00, its never been replaced, fixed a heater hose that I found leaking then fired her up. I warmed the vehicle up to operating temp. ran the codes ( it went into a high idle again) so i ran it for awhile, took a drive came back the truck idled great, I could rev up the engine and it would drop right to the normal idle RPM's. Ok I ran the codes again and the only code that came up was 538 so I went thru the sequence again that you told me and still only the 538. Way2old its running great I can shut it off hot and it will start up just like new, after driving the high idle seems to have gone away. So I will run it this week and at weekend I will run the codes again and if the 538 comes back I will be it touch. I wanted also to say "thank you" for your help it has made my job alot easier and save me alot of money.Smile

Thanks again
