Hello,

My 2003 Ford Expedition 5.6 V8 is making a sound upon excelleration that seems to be coming from the right front of the vehicle. It sounds like rattling nails in a tin can....

Started little over a week ago, periodic, but has gotten much more frequent.

Thanks!

Could be exhaust manifold leak, You might have broken/rotton studs, cracked manifold or gasket blowen out.

Possible valve train issues, pullys, heatshild loose or ???

It could be alot of things sounds are hard to diagnose over the internet.

Thanks...is there a triage of things I might be able to check on my own...easiest to most involved...before I take it to my mech? I don't really know my way around the exhaust manifold...rotten/broken studs seems possible due to salt water (lived in Maine,hauled/launched boats)....blown gasket I have no clue how to check...and valve train is out of my grasp.

Thanks again!! Great website!

the only thing you could check on your own it probably heatshilds.. but if your not mechanically inclined you would be further ahead to bring it in and have professional check it out.
