Need to know which engine is in this. It is either a 2.4, 2.7, or a 3.5l. Steve

From the description you have provided, it sounds like you may have a lean misfire problem. What you can try is to use propane enrichment. You said the O2 sensors aren't switching normally. With then engine warmed up, and I assume you are using a scan tool with data stream since you can say it's staying in open loop, watch the O2 voltages as you slowly open the propane bottle into the air cleaner. If the O2 sensor stays at 0 volts but the engine rpm smoothes out, replace O2 sensor. If the sensor responds by going high, and starts switching quickly above and below 1/2 volt, check for vacuum leaks. Also, check the MAF sensor performance. ***Using propane around old ignition wires can cause a flash fire hazard, always check the wires for any signs of burn marks or arcing along the insulation and boots prior to using propane enrichment!!!*** If any signs of voltage leakage are present, replace ignition wires before propane testing. This is one of the more dangerous tests that we do, but, is very effective. Steve

Thanks Steve. That is the direction I have been leaning to, replacing the o2 sensors. I'll let you know if it works out. I'll check them out with propane first.
