i have an 04 dodge intrepid sxt 3.5L HO with 115,000 miles on it. on the highway it stalled and wouldnt start for 20 minutes. was 200 miles from home. four times durring the trip it done this. it would loose power, wouldnt accelerate, and then stall. finally made it home after sitting on side of road and waiting 15-20 minutes before it would start again each time. next day, codes on car were p0340, p0300, and p0302. after reading other posts describing similar problems, i went with the idea that the camshaft position sensor circuit was the cause, and the missfires the effect. i checked voltage at cmp connector, it was a steady 5 volts. then i reconnected, backprobed cmp, pulled coil ignitors and plugs, turned crank by hand 3 complete revolutions. there was no voltage. so.... i disconnected all the hoses and electrical and pulled plenum, cleaned it and intake, replaced cmp {paper seperator on old one was just not there}, new plenum gasket, and put it all back together using torque and sequence specs. it started right up and idled at just over 600rpms, smoother than its ever run. i shut it off and turned it over maybe 20 consecutive times and it caught right off the bat every time. next day on the highway, pushing it hard, when i hit 95 mph, it stalled again, and again wouldnt start for 15 minutes afterward. the check engine light had reset when i disconnected the battery most of the prior day to replace cmp, but now came on again. the only code now is p0300. i can drive for a couple of miles, and it runs better than ever, but ultimately will start to loose power and stall then wont start for 15-20 minutes. when it does start it misses really bad for a few seconds, surges to 1200rpms then settles back in to just over 600. if it has been sitting for over an hour it starts on second try generally. although i do enjoy wrenching on my car, I AM NOT a professional, far from it. im just some guy who cant afford to pay a professional, so any help would be greatly appreciated. i mean, random misfire?, i think like a dozen different things could be the cause,

bought the car used with 80,000 miles on it, drove it for 2 years, and have never changed the fuel filter. i change the fuel filter on my truck every year, its in line, but the filter on the intrepid is in tank. never occurred to me that its a fuel supply problem because it comes and goes. ill drop the tank and put a new one in tomorrow, hope that does the fix, if not i imagine that filter is due or overdue anyway. thanks. i dont think anyone im closely related to has been in the C.G., but i done a decade in the navy. most of us blankenships come out of the hollers of west virginia and kentucky, and if you go enough generations back we are all related one way or the other ! great fish ! no decent places to drop a line in L.A.
