05 canyon will not idle... Sign In

I have an 05 gmc canyon and all of a sudden the truck will not idle right. normally it idles @500-600 RPMs but last night the RPMs would jump to @900-1000 and drop down to @200 or so and eventually die after 3 or 4 episodes. If I kept it running, it was "ok" until I went to stop or slow down and as soon as the RPMs got back down to @500 it would try to die and my lights would dim. If it died it took 3 or 4 tries to start it again. please help, I'm not mechanically inclined and I need my truck

This could be anything from a problem in throttle actuator control (TAC), engine mechanical, vacuum leaks, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve leak to whatever.
Have the system’s code(s) read and let us know if there are any and what the code(s) are.

I haven't had repairs done yet but the service department said that it is more than likely the mass airflow sensor but they didn't give me the code it was reading. thanks for your reply and help
