'06 chevy malibu shuts off while driving Sign In

I have a 2006 chevy malibu and not that long ago, the check engine light came on as the car was jerking back when letting go of the gas. The code read that the EGR was dirty, so I cleaned it but not perfectly. The jerking stopped but now the car will randomly shut off WHILE I'm driving and the check engine light hasn't came back on ever since. Will start right back up again but it is pretty scary. Did I not clean the EGR valve well enough, could it be my throttle body or fuel pump?

No, it didn't say the EGR was dirty. There is no such code. That was someone's interpretation of what they thought a code meant. It doesn't really matter because that can't cause the car to shut off when driving.

What is the situation when the car dies? coming to a stop? accelerating? cruising? idling?

Okay then, thank you for letting me know it's at least not the EGR that's doing this.
It only happens when I come to a stop or start hitting the break, I also cleaned out the throttle body twice in hopes this would stop

What engine does it have?

Its the 3.5l engine. Also if this will make any sense, it seems to shut off less often when the AC is running, although it still will with it on.

That's an electronic throttle so you don't have a replaceable IAC. I'd say check it real good for vacuum leaks but if none found you will probably need a new throttle body.

So it's very unlikely that it's the fuel pump or relay? Thank you so much, trying to fix this on my own

If it was a fuel pump or fuel pressure issue, you would probably have the stalling occurring even when your accelerating or cruising. You could always connect a fuel pressure gauge up and monitor the fuel pressure when the stalling occurs if you suspect that. When you cleaned the throttle body did you reset the PCM's KAM? Do you know what trouble code number was being stored? You would assume if you had a throttle body failing or sticking it would be setting TAC codes or going into a reduced power state.
