Hi everyone,

I have a:
2007 Mazda 3 Hatchback
Manual
2.3 L engine
50,000 miles

I have an unusual problem. On a cold start (car sitting at work all day winter or summer) If I accelerate over about 3000 rpm I get a "boost" of power. Keep in mind I have not made any modifications to the engine. No turbo, or super charger, or anything. I have no idea of where this boost of power would come from. I am not pressing any harder on the accelerator to make it go faster, but after 3000 rpm the car will accelerate faster and after I shift it seems to bog down. Any ideas?

Get codes read and post #s would help. IDK - a power surge at higher RPM then bogging if you want a guess on this low mile car perhaps clean throttle body well. Low and or poke around miles if so has some side effects on some vehicles if that's been it's exposure?

You are probably feeling the effects of the variable intake system on that engine. Around that RPM the intake manifold has vacuum controlled valves that can redirect the air in the manifold which causes the torque band to occur at higher rpms. It's is almost like going from a dual plane to a single plain intake manifold.

That engine also has variable valve timing which can change the power band at higher rpms also.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
