its got a 305 2 barrel, rebuilt carb, its getting spark, getting gas, its got a new coil. rebuilt carb and put in new coil cause it quit running on me. I started it up the other morning to warm it up(day after ice storm) was running, died on me and now won't start. I turn it over and it sounds like it wants to start, but just doesn't get started all the way!!!! what else can i do, i bought a new timing chain set, but haven't installed yet, unless neccesary..
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Test for timing chain: Put timing pointer on TDC at crankshaft. remove distributor cap and coil. Turn crankshaft with a flex handle and socket either way to set to TDC. Now watch dist rotor while turning the other way and see how many degrees it tuns before the rotor moves. 5-6 degrees is enough - more than that chain must be really worn - it's a good service for these anyway and worth doing.

If spark and any fuel is there it should at least react for you if anywhere near close. You can see the basic timing with it just cranking. If it's not blinking at all this is trouble. The black ign module in these used to just go without warning and didn't cost that much (the one inside dist with wires at each end) Good luck,

T
