But on the front clip there are these two boxes with wires coming out of them one on each side. One of them says Motorcraft electronic regulator and has four wires coming out. They all have letor labels for each color red Is labeled f green is labeled s one yellow is labeled a and the other yellow has what looks like a distributor condenser on the end and is labeled r. The other box says nothing on the frount weighs a good amount and has six wires coming out of it the only writing is on the bottom and says TP 40SB. I am wondering do I need them for the engine to run and what are they for. If you unplug something mark it with your own system to plug back in later if need be. Most "things" don't use the same plugs so wouldn't fit. Any but Fords use "bails" to keep things from falling out. Some you lift bails, some marked on the bail two letters at a time to PU SH = push on those then pull apart. Usually it is labeled I (ignition), A (alternator), S (stator), F (field). You'll need that if your going to use an externally regulated alternator. The regulator basically controls the output of the alternator to ensure the alternator keeps a steady voltage supply to the electrical system. The second box is the ignition control module. TP 40SB is a part number for a NAPA ignition control module. You will need the ignition control module or you won't have any spark. The ignition control module gets a signal from the distributor pick up and uses that signal to control the ignition coil output. The capacitor or filter is used to filter out unwanted voltage signals from affecting electrical circuits that are sensitive to noise, such as the radio.
