Hi all, I have a 1983 E-350 motorhome with a 7.5L 460 V8. It has Holley 4 barrel carburetor. I took it on a 12,000 mile road trip last year and she did great for the most part - only had to replace a fuel pump along the way.
I'm having 2 issues currently. Sometimes she fires up great, but about 1/10 of the times when I try and start she will crank and crank but never fire. I try hitting pumping the pedal, clicking the key on and off, but she just cranks and cranks with no fire. EVENTUALLY after 5 or 10 minutes of trying there will be a tiny catch, and then a slightly bigger catch, then more cranking, and then finally she wakes up just enough to catch and fire up.
The other issue is that *sometimes* after a few hours of driving, when I slow down, she starts chugging and the engine will die. If I put it in neutral and give a little gas, she wakes up and keeps running but as soon as my foot is off the pedal, the engine will chug and die out.
I had a new fuel pump installed last year, so if the problem is with fuel - it shouldn't be the pump. The filter is brand new and the carb is 1 year old. I was doing some research and learned about an Idle Air Control valve which sounds like it could be the issue...only problem is that I can't find where the damn thing is located on the engine. I'm beginning to think this engine doesn't even have an IAC since its carbureted, but I bought the part that said it was for my engine, so I'm thinking I just can't find it.
I have attached some pictures of my engine, if anyone can help me locate where the new IAC goes or has any insight for my 2 engine problems, I would be GREATLY appreciative! I don't know much about engines but I'm willing to learn. Thanks kindly! Myles
