1988 Dodge Aries idle still a problem Sign In
1988 Dodge Aries 2.5 liter 130,000.
The car starts and idles fine until the shift lever is engaged. Then the idle goes really high when put in park or neutral. Got a key code error of 24 saying the throttle position sensor is at fault. I changed the TPS and still have the same problem and the same error code. The manuals description of the error is somewhat ambiguous saying voltage is either to high or to low to the TPS. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The problem can be in the wiring for the circuit or the PCM itself. It needs to be tested manually using a digital voltmeter right at the sensor.

Probably wrong but the PCM may be behind passenger's kick panel and soaked - just one, different model but similar caught road water (not a flood car) and trashed the wiring in there. Easy enough to take a peek,

No, the ECU is in the engine compartment.
