1991 Chevy Berreta Gt Engine problem Sign In
Help with 1991 Chevy Berretta GT. Engine idles fine but when get it out on the road it misses and loses power then eventually dies. after engine cools it restarts. what could be the problem??

There are a few things that can cause this symptom, they are:
1) Weak fuel pump
2) Clogged converter
3) Faulty EGR Valve
4) Dis Module, coil packs, crank sensor
5) Sensor or PCM failure
The best advice I can give you is the next time this happens, WHILE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START, hook up a fuel pressure guage, spark tester in one of the plug wires, and a noid light in one of the injector connectors and crank the engine. We have to see what system(s) are failing to accurately diagnose the problem.
Sounds like there is a component that is becoming heat-sensitive and when it heats up it becomes electrically open. Perform the above test COMPLETELY and post back with results. If you don't do everything then a misdiagnosis will occur, the wrong part(s) will be replaced, and it will get expensive.

Could it be a Sensor on the Transmission? If so where is it? What does it look like?

My last post tells the possibilities and the diagnostic procedure that has to be done first. These procedures can only be done while the vehicle is not starting. This criteria has to be met before we can go further. Bypassing diagnostic procedures results in just throwing parts at it and costing a lot of time and $$.
