1992 Buick Riviera won't start
I have a 1992 Buick Riviera with 3.8L V6. It was running and then stalling after running for about 30 minutes of being on. I replaced the crank position sensor and then the car wouldn't start at all. The security light kept flashing whenever I would try to start it so I bypassed the security system and after that still nothing. Then I opened the ECM and it was really badly burnt out so I got a new one and still nothing. The car is cranking, but I'm getting no spark and no gas at all. I am at a loss of what to do now and any help would be great. Thank you.

Sounds like a mess - anyway lets start by posting all codes. Why did you change the CKP crank position sensor? The ECM - where did you get it and do you have original? How are you with wiring diagrams, using a DVOM or test light?

When you stated the circuit board was burnt, it would have been important to be sure you don't have any shorts or excessive amperage on an output device circuit. Output devices are solenoids, relays, injectors, coils, etc. that the PCM operates. If you have some type of short or over current condition and you don't correct it, you new PCM may be damaged. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Before I go any further I do need to just let you know that all of this was done by a mechanic. He worked on this car for 4 weeks and this is everything he has done. I normally work on my own cars but I didn't have the time and figured that sending it to a mechanic would be faster. Getting the information out of him from what he used and exactly what he did was literally impossible. Needless to say he must not be very good at what he does because he gave up and said "I can't fix this car" and told me to just come and get the car. I was going to go and get it today, but unfortunately I wasn't able to. I work 2 jobs and am very busy and have been borrowing a car from a friend.

Very sorry. I have been busy nonstop with work. (Working two jobs) and haven't been able to get around to letting you guys know that the car was fixed. I hooked up a scope to the crankshaft position sensor that the shop said that they replaced and noticed I wasn't getting a 3x signal at all. Also the harmonic balancer was so badly warn that I have no idea why when the garage I took it to "replaced" the crank sensor didn't replace the balancer as well. Once again sorry for the late responce.

Thanks for the follow up and will close as solved. Not so sure you can know when a harmonic balancer will fail and how fast from perfect so I wouldn't blame that on anyone easily? Tom
