1993 Honda Civic will not start when left overnight or after sitting for a few days Sign In

I purchased my College son a 1993 Honda Civic, it has 205,000 miles it runs great with some obvious wear and tear. The engine has always been well maintained. In the summer the car starts fine, but as soon as the temperature drops and sits overnight the car has trouble starting.....its not the battery since it is cranking, the will just NOT spark over. I have to wait until the day warms up and then it will start up again......anyone have any idea why it does this?

Check engine light on?

When you mean it doesn't spark over do you mean that you confirmed there isn't spark when it won't start?

They have a lot of problems with the main fuel injection relays being very temp sensitive.

Main relay is a pattern problem as HT stated. You could pull the relay out and check the relay printed circuit board. Most the time you'll find out the solder has cracked. You can fix them by resoldering or you can replace it.

Search YouTube for Honda main relay fix. There are several videos.

Check engine light is not on, and as far as sparking....hmmm I am assuming it is sparking just not starting, since it will start when the temp is warmer, but I am not sure......I was able to start the car last night, i parked it in the garage overnight left the hood open and placed a towel over the distributor cap, started right up this morning........hmmm..should I change the distributor?

Why would you change the distributor if you have not determined the cause of your problem?

You need to check for spark using a spark tester and confirm the check engine light bulb checks when the engine doesn't want to start.

If it were mine, I would be inspecting the main relay circuit board if you can't get it to act up.
