I have a 1995 Ford Ranger. It periodically has problems starting if the engine is warm. It will turn over immediately and after a second it will start sputtering and then stall. It usually takes quite a few attempts to start after this happens. While attempting to start it after the sputtering, it will just crank but not start - no sputtering. Finally it will just start right up like there was no problem.

Until recently, everytime this occurred it was after the engine was warm. Now it has done it twice with a cold engine, although it had sat all day in the sun on a hot day. On these two occasions when trying to start it the first time there was no sputtering. It just cranked but would not start until about the tenth attempt.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Need to know if there is fuel getting to engine when it will not start. Also need to know if there is spark. Sounds to me like the fuel pump is getting weak and not putting enough pressure to start the vehicle. Let us know.

I do not have a fuel pressure gauge. I do have a check engine light on now. My friend checked it and it is a vapor code. Do you have any idea what that points too?

You really need the fuel pressure as way2old suggested. That if only to rule that out and you may want to pay for that instead of buying the set up that can check it, T
