1996 Sebring Engine REDLINES when started

I have a 1996 Sebring Convertible with a 2.5l v6. I replaced it with a motor and transmission from 1997 Cirrus 2.5l v6. Both motors were running properly before the swap. When I start the sebring now it immediately redlines but I shut it off immediately to keep it from causing damage. The throttle linkage is not engaged. I changed throttle bodies, and the computer and it still does it. Even with the thorttle body sensors unplugged it does it. Any suggestions?

Well that is a strange problem.... Gonna have to think this one over.... One problem with Chry's is on the same engine they used flywheels (flexplate)with different tooth counts for the crank sensor, usually this would result in a no start condition.. The safest options was to transfer the flywheel. I think I would be tempted to take off the IAC and find something big enough to block off the air bypass passage (also not to get sucked down the throttle body) and try to get a normal idle to see exactly how it does run & maybe compare crank/cam sync patterns. Might not hurt to pop out the starter and compare tooth count (not the ring gear but the gaps for the crk sensor) & also spacing of both flywheels

I changed the engine and transmission as a complete unit. I also changed the computer. It has the one from the cirrus in it right now, so it is reading the same crank sensor it read before.

Ok. well both those years used an SBEC III pcm so you wouldn't think compatibility would be an issue. Which would lead me back to the 1st suggest and that would be to block off the IAC bypass port and try to get the engine to run long enough to see a data stream or set a code. Has it set any codes as of yet? Also, you have me wondering. Swapping engine, trans & PCM is a lot of work for a bad motor. Was there anything else going on prior to this that you may have forgot to mention......

The original motor in the Sebring was leaking water from the water pump. As you know you have to remove the timing belt to do that. I didn't really want to get into that, but before I could get it fixed there was a loud bang and clang from the transmission and fluid started pouring out of the bell housing. The cirrus has 107,000 miles on it and was running strong, and was wrecked. I bought it for $250. Figured it would be cheaper to swap out than have my convertible fixed, and I really want my convertible back on the road. I was very careful disconnecting everything and replacing it in reverse order. I can't see where I missed anything, so I was hoping for an easy fix, where I might have missed a vacuum line or wire. I haven't hooked it up to a code reader, I don't have one. To be honest it didn't cross my mind to do so. I know you can do it with the key but I'm not sure how. Thanks for your input. I hope we can find a solution.
