1996 Vauxhaul Tigra 1.4 DOHC 55747 Milage Hi, Im having problems with my Tigra's timing belt and am wondering if its worh repairing. i was driving to town at the weekend when the car started makeing a grinding noise whilst in neutral/stationary, and a ocasinal squeking noise when moving (sounded like the fan belt slipping). When i pulled up at some traffic lights the grinding got louder when i set off the engine stopped and wouldnt start again, just made the same grinding noise and the Timing belt casing was shaking. Id run the car for about 5/10mins before it cut out. When i removed the upper timing belt cover i could see the belt had slipped the wrong way round one of the pullys and jammed. a local garage quoted £300 - £500 for a repair depending on the damage. (Car cost £800 3yrs ago) is it worth repairing? Whats the odds that its already bust the engine? Ive got a picture of the belt where its jammed if anyones intrested in having a look. Any advice is welcome. Cheers Dave
