1996 Eclipse Mistubishi gst 2.0 dohc 16 valve 116 Miles Hello my eclipse as of late i was driving to 711 normal day no probelms no werid noises and as i got to 711 i turned the car off. i came back out and my car would not turn over it didnt make a sound like my battery was dead it was clicking just wouldent turn over than i gave it some gas and it fianly turned over however it was puffing black smoke and sputtering like crazy and if i took my foot of gas it would die i had to idel it myself for about 30 seconds before it would idle..its never done this before.. now everything i have done to it iv replaced spark plugs, iv replaced spark plug wires, iv replaced fuel filter, iv also replaced oil filter did a full oil change i took my gasket off and replaced seals... Things about the car when i bought is it had a seal oil leak witch i replaced, and the battery was basicly dead but since it was jumpstarted i have not had an issiue with it since than. So i havent got a new battery it also had a check engine light on Things iv been told are possibly wrong my battery could be shot my distributer cap my be going my fuel pump might being going or when i had the oil leak the oil was getting into my engine HOWEVER since i did the oil filter and oil change and rea sealed the engine it dosent puff black anymore but its puffing white smoke like crazy i put some injectore cleaner in there dont no if that has anything to do with it puffing white like this it still dosent wanna turn over tho..i have to give it gas...and check engine light is still on.... thanks for reading.

White smoke usually means coolant being burned in the combustion chamber, probably from a blown head gasket. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Too much fuel produces black smoke, oil produces blue or gray. You can usually tell the difference by the smell of the smoke and how long it lingers.
