1997 cavalier 2.2 ,the timing chain broke and both topend and bottom have been rotated, the timing marks dont line up when on compression stroke #1 piston and the cam gear has a small whole in it i asume it is supposed to be the timing mark, the only way i can get things to come out on compression and ready to fire on #1 is with the mark in the crank gear and the whole in cam gear mis aligned, am i making this more difficult than it needs to be,i just dont want to put it all back together and it be wrong,it really sucked to get this far,HELP PLEASE!!! THANKS TRAVIS

Align the marks on the gears with the tabs on the tensioner housing, the marks on the gears are not meant to be aligned to each other. Dan. Canadian "EH"

thanks dan,i have not wrenched in quite a while and im a little rusty,i think i thought about it to hard or something and was making it more difficult than it needed to be,any way i borrowed a HAYNES REPAIR BOOK,from a friend and the book stated that the motor turned clockwise,WELL IN FACT it turns counterclockwise that is why i could not get them to line up the first go around,i will tell ya that the haynes book sucked from my stand point, but in the end i got it figured out and it runs like a top thanks again travis
