1997 Honda Civic Manual Transmission 140K

This car has been sitting in my garage for six months. I never started the engine. I tried to jump it but it will not start again.

I hooked it up to my newer car and let my newer car run for about 10 minutes. Then I started the 97 civic and let it run for about 20 minutes on its own. I turned it off and immediately tried to start it again and it would not start.

Do you think this is a bad battery or a different problem?

Patti; It does sound like a battery issue. Could be that it just needs to have a good charge and clean the battery terminals as needed. With the vehicle's age, it's probably getting near battery replacement time, but I'd want to make sure this is the problem before 'just buying a new one'. Once you get this problem corrected, probably should have the oil and filter changed, regardless of mileage, and all of the other fluids checked/replaced as needed.

That's good to know. I was hoping it was not another problem. I can't drive this car as it has non operational plates and theft/fire insurance. I wanted to make sure it wasn't something more extensive before I invested more money in updating the plates and insurance. I can take the battery out and take to a repair place first. I am trying to sell this car.

Fire insurance? That sounds rather ominous?Smile Just kidding. Good luck.
