I HAVE A 1998 MONTE CARLO LS 3.1 ENGINE WITH 165,000 MILES I HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET SO I CHANGED THE UPPER GASKETS AFTER DOING THIS AND BEING FINISHED IT HAD A MISS ,THE AUTO ZONE CODE READER SAID I HAD A FAILURE IN NUMBER SIX CYLINDER AFTER CHECKING PLUGS WIRES AND COIL PACK AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG I THOUGHT MAYBE A BAD VALVE. I TOOK IT BACK APART AND FOUND A BENT PUSH ROD.OKAY INSTALL NEW ONE ( OR SO I THOUGHT ) NOW IT IS BACK TOGETHER AND A WHOLE NEW PROBLEM ( BACKFIRING ) PULL THE PLUG WIRES TO TRY TO SEE WHERE OF COURSE IT IS NUMBER SIX CYLINDER. UNDO THAT PLUG WIRE AND IT RUNS FAIRLY SMOOTH . ANY HELP I CAN GET WOULD BE GREAT ,THE CAR IS IN TOO GOOD A SHAPE TO JUNK. THANK YOU JIM

You probably didn't notice it but the intake and exhaust pushrods are different sizes and you probably mixed them up. The intake pushrods are color-coded orange and are 6 in. (152mm) long. The exhaust pushrods are color-coded blue and are 63/8 in. (162mm) long. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
