I have a 1998 Oldsmobile cutlass with a little over 95,000 miles (not sure of engine size) that recently started jerking and bucking around while driving. This usually only tends to happen when the engine has warmed up a bit and has been running for a few miles, also it only bucks when the gas is pressed .When I first noticed it I noticed my tachometer drop out to 0 then back up to around 2000 RPM's. This started one day after I had quickly accelerated around slow moving traffic. I thought this may be my transmission slipping so a tried putting it in park, then giving it gas, but the engine bucked while in park. Could this be a fuel injection problem, or is it still a transmission problem, or none of the above ?

This kind of sounds like a mass air flow sensor issue, but should check fuel filter, first. This engine has a 'rev' limiter, so once you get to a specified rpm (around 3500-4000) it will give you a 'surge' type operation. Do you have a check engine or 'service engine soon' lamp illuminated on the dash? If so, have the trouble code(s) retrieved and post them for us. Loren SW Washington

Had the fuel filter replaced, and a set of new plugs and wires. Check engine light did not come on until a few days after the original post. The codes from it stated there was an error with the O2 crank shaft sensor...or something like that, so I had the crank shaft sensor replaced. I picked it up from the mechanic and it still bucks, and the check engine light is still on. Could this still be a fuel problem still, possibly fuel injection system ? Could this be something as simple as a new air filter. Please help.
