1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee inconsistent Idle

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited(V8,AWD) and am having an inconsistent idle. Whenever I start the vehicle the engine starts fine but revs to about 2200rpm. Then it will drop to about 1500 and rev up to about 1900 and then drop to about 1200, rev up to 1500, drop to about 800 where it seems to idle the best. Any idea what the cause of this might be???

Check for obvious vacuum leaks or anything out of place and then get a code reading. Something must be stored in memory with this performance,
