1999 Mercury Cougar 2.5L v6 120,000 Miles Alright my oil pan recently cracked and leaked all the oil out of the pan while i was driving down the road. i noticed a small clunking noise in the engine and pulled over within a half mile. now she makes that noise all the time, but still runs. I have all the repair manuals and tools i just need to know what to look at first as far as diagnostics. any ideas about what could have happened? is it salvageable?

There really isn't anything to diagnose here. The engine is severely damaged and needs to be rebuilt or replaced. I suggest replacing it with a remanufactured long block. Don't attempt rebuilding it yourself. that takes years of experience to do correctly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
