Hi everyone, This forum has helped me in the past and I'm hoping it can help now. I have a 99 Pontiac GTP with 150k miles and the last 4 days or so it has been getting progressively harder to start in the morning. I put a battery tester on it and the battery is good. What else could cause this? Thanks for any help I can get.

What exactly is it doing. Is the starter cranking it over fast enough to start it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Not sure quite what you mean. Battery testing can be wrong or misleading. If you can try a good solid jump start and that takes all the issues away when it would have done this than the battery IS the likely issue! Batteries are marked as to date made. IMO 3-4 years it all you get dependable use out of them and there are wild exceptions. Look for a date. In encrypted (some are) you can still find out from a place that sells that brand the month and year made. Could be a sticker or embossed into plastic case. NOTE: COMMON LEAD ACID CAR BATTERIES ARE ON A CONSTANT DECLINE FROM NEW! All connections need be known good and the side post (GM style) ends are a trouble spot. They can be tight and look good and NOT be! You kinda need to take them off to know and they do make quality ends (watch out and only use the temporary ones for just that) or whole cables aren't always that difficult. Always disconnect neg at least if messing with cable end at starter especially. If corroded that one can break off (my luck) so use care dealing with that connection and if you have a day put PB penetrating oil on it now! T

Slow crank. Seems to draw A LOT of power and my stereo clock had to be reset. Going to try a jump on it and see what it does.

OK: Suggest using and old car and leave cables on and if problem is gone while attached you really have to think about that battery and connections as said. New or not a battery can be bad! Slow cranking suggests the battery is not capable of delivering the amps needed. Clock etc going out suggests it really went way too low on amps and volts for a time or effectively somehow behaved as disconnected. It's possible the starter is drawing way too much or another problem. Test what you can and report. Here to solve this, T
