1999 tahoe fuel pump / electrical Sign In

Year of vehicle: 1999
Make of vehicle: chevy
Model of vehicle: tahoe
Engine size: 5.7 V8
Mileage/Kilometers 123,000

All of a sudden, fuel pump (that whining under the car) won't turn on, then leave alone for a few hours and it's ok.

1. About 6 months ago, the hand on the fuel gauge starting vibrating.
2. 2 months ago Engine compartment light won't shut off after closing hood.
3. 2 weeks ago Fuel pump wouldn't turn on, then ok next day etc
4. 2 days ago Electric Driver side window electric would not go down, fuel pump again would not turn on

replaced fuel relay yesterday, fuel pump still did not work.

came home today, started car ok and driver side window rolled down ok.

is this a combo window motor / fuel pump problem? electrical harness problem somewhere? multiple relay replacement?

please help and provide some direction if you can.

There have been corrosion problems with wiring connection right near the tank. I'd check that out for the fuel gauge + pump issues and don't have a clue what connection the window and a hood light would have to that??

Re: 1999 tahoe fuel pump / electrical Sign In

Saw one while working at a friend's shop and the connector plug was the problem. Tried to find a pic of the harness listed and suggested but just found the whole pump - not the wires separately. The problem was a plug with bail only - and would require removal of pump to replace but that may not be necessary.

I wanted to take that plug to get a file pic of how it looked as that was an elusive problem at that shop - not mine and it was the plug - when separated showed the copper geenish/aqua corrosion at the plug and the gauge AND the pump didn't work properly on that one - all was replaced - not my shop or job. Connections inside the tank aren't subject to weather or better not be - like road salts used for Winter that raises all hell with stuff like that.

It's a maybe for you. I'd try WD-40 AND silicone grease to seal the connector after inspected and or cleaned up. If really messed up I'd try to solder in a new connetor without taking tank out if I was pretty sure all was well with pump and inside,
