2000 Blazer engine leaking fluids and poor performance Sign In

My 2000 Chevrolet Blazer LS SUV has had some trouble recently with the radiator leaking, so I've been filling it with water. A few days ago I added some water to the reservoir and left the cap to the reserve tank off while driving by accident. As soon as I noticed the mistake, and that my car was overheating, I drove straight home and let the car be. The next day I added more water to the tank, checked fluid levels, and noticed that the engine was leaking fluid near the gasket seals. I let the car sit for nearly 45 minutes while running, and the engine maintained its temperature well, so I decided to try to use it. It worked at first, I was able to drive to a friends house and when I left 6 hours later it was working well. However, as I waited in traffic the engine began to get hot, and soon I had trouble getting the car to accelerate from a stop, and could barely get it above 30mph. As soon as I got home I turned the car off, and after a few minutes I tried to turn it back on but it would not, it just sat turning over repeatedly. I also lifted the hood and could smell gasoline. Just to rule out that the battery died I attempted to jump it but it did not help. I let the car sit overnight and was able to start it in the morning, but with the engine shakes the entire car when idling, but whenever I run the rpm's up it stops shaking. A friend suggested that the problem was bad spark plugs or a bad fuel injector.

Well, I'd say your lack of attention to the problem has likely cost you an engine now. I suggest you have it towed to a competent repair shop for analysis.

You just don't continue to drive a vehicle that has a substantial coolant leak and your never uses plain water in a cooling system.

I don't understand why people do that. Driving around with a leaking radiator and constantly adding water is a recipe for disaster. The coolant systems on the S trucks those years were total crap to begin with with the dex-cool sludge and intake gaskets dissolving away. Maybe it is time to start looking for another vehicle.
