2000 Chevy Malibu Starting Problems Sign In

My son has a 2000 Chevy Malibu witha 3.1 liter V-6 engine. The problem is, on foggy, heavy dew mornings, the engine will turn over, but does not seem to get a spark and will not start. If I wait a couple of hours and try again, the engine will start right up. I suspect that moisture is getting into the electronics, but which one(s)? I would think the distributor, but these newer cars don't have one. What can I do to cure this problem?

Thanks

How many miles on the car?
Were the wires ever changed and when?

To add; Check the CTS and connection. (cooant temp sensor). With Dex-cool, could be degraded? Make sure it's a lack of spark.

The car has 140,338 miles on it. The spark plugs were just recently replaced, but not the wires. The coolant system has been completely overhauled recently due to leaks and over-heating problems.

Change the wires before you look any further. they are way overdue.
