2000 Kia Sephia hesitates and misses Sign In

Car has just over 54,000 miles, suddenly strated missing and hesitating when the engine is under load. Changed plugs, air and gas filters with no change. Diagnostic states #1 cylinder is missing, changed coil pack connected to #1 cylinder with no change.

Did you let the cars gas go really low? Some times this gets dirt from the gas tank into the line and might clug the gas filter... Have you changed the gas filter yet? may be worth a shot since i think 50k miles is about right actually may be 30k or 60k.

Just thinking that when you press the gas in that the extra gas needed doesn't come in fast enough, and gas filter is the cheapest check.

May also be water in the tank... but i'd check with the gas filter first

A bad plug wire could do that too. If you know it's #1 cyl, try with helper, disconnect the wire from the plug - engine off - then (best when dark) start the engine and look for arcing. Should be none. Don't let it run that way too long. Good luck- T

I thought the same thing, changing the fuel filter was among my first steps.

I checked the plug wire last night, checked good. I also pulled the plug and connected it to the wire and ensured good spark. Checked resistance in the wire and it was zero.

Perhaps the next move is to check fuel pressure at the engine. - T

Tom,

I thought about the spark plug wire test and realized I didn't pull the whole stem out of the spark plug well and that did the trick. Nice spark jumping from stem, none from the wire. Replaced the set of spark plug wires (all two of them) and runs like a champ.

Thanks,
Art
