hello, i have a 2000 Chevy silvarado 1500 EX-cab with a 4.8L I have a p0449 code i think its the valve between the cab and the bed on the drivers side. If so i ran 12v to it and the valve works does this work off 12v or is it less. I used a test light to check for power and it just glowed very little i don't know at what RPMs does it power it up is there something else that could be doing this.

hatecars; P0449 is the EVAP purge control solenoid is seeing a fault. This solenoid is grounded by the PCM to operate. There is quite a flow chart involving testing. Be very careful applying voltage to circuit as you may end up frying the PCM. Purge control solenoids are a common fault. I would recommend that you have this professionally diagnosed. It will not cause a drivablility issue, but will cause an emissions failure. If you 'ignore' it, the check engine light will remain on and you won't know if something else (very detrimental) goes wrong. Sorry. Loren SW Washington

You should have constant 12v to it with the key on so if you don't, check fuse marked "ENG1" in the underhood fuse box. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

There is no way. This is directly from Alldata PROCEDURE A Tech II or equivalent Scan tool must be used to clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the PCM memory. When clearing DTCs, follow the instructions supplied by the Scan tool manufacturer. NOTES: If you have an AutoZone or Advanced auto in your area, they will read and clear them for free. Just don't tell them you already fixed it.

No, it's the computer and every piece of wiring in the car which cannot be swapped anyway because the VIN number is burned into them and they won't work in another vehicle..
