I had an hesitation or a misfire today while run at stedy speed. I had no problems when I got on the gas. I took it to a mechanic and they told me the plugs were very black and the #1 oxygen sensor not functioning. It will cost me $240 to fix this to see if its the problem. Now I drove it home with out fixing it and the car was fine. The dummy light was on for about 2 years and now is off. what else could case this? Thank you, Ehaw p.s. moter has 220,000 miles on it.

The diag sounds plausable and the light (you mean CEL right?) was probably "reset" and come again soon. Waiting is likely to cost you converter(s) and the extra fuel to kill them, T
