2001 Volkswagen Jetta
1.8L engine
189,000 miles

I have had this car for a while now and have only had one issue before this that was no big deal. However about a week ago while driving my ECP light came on and i lost power, i pulled over and shut the car off for a minute. The car started right up afterwards and the light was off so i really didnt think anything of it. Then a couple of days later the same thing happened but this time my check engine light came on with it. I decided to take it to my brother-in-law to have him take a look at it and he found out that a wiring harness wasnt making a full connection so we just assumed that was the issue and the car drove fine after that. Today my EPC light came on again along with my check engine light. I pulled off the road and shut off my car and when i tried to start it back up it continually stalled on me. I need help finding out what is wrong here. Since this happened only 3 hours ago we havent had time to mess around with it but i dont want to continually replace parts for this to keep happening.

The "check engine" light is an indicator for a system that monitors many electronic functions in the system, also called the "malfunction indicator lamp" (MIL). It can come on for any of hundreds of different causes from any of the systems that the computer monitors. Some are very important and can lead to further component or engine damage and some are emissions related not as serious but still a problem and need to be repaired.

Your first step is to have the computer scanned to retrieve the trouble codes that were set when the check engine light came on. Those codes will give you specific information about what the computer saw and will get you pointed in the right direction to find your problem. With a 1996 or newer and some 95 cars and you have an AutoZone or Advanced auto parts in your area, they will read them for free. Once you have these code numbers, we can be a lot more specific about what your problem may be.

Hello.........
I've been in the automotive industry for about 30 years and I have a stumper..... Customer brought in a 2001 Jetta 2.0 5spd on the hook. He says that car will start when cold and quits when warms up. He has among several codes and the EPC light. The codes list all over the board and are PO321,322,351-354,343,411, and 420! Has any experianced this by chance??? I'm leaning towards possible ground or ECM.
Ty for any help!!!!!!!!!!!
