2002
Ford
Mustang GT
117000 MILES

I took my mustang to an automechanic after it broke down on me on the street. The mechanic told me that one of the cylinders was not firing and that I would need a new engine. That seemed a bit drastic to me.
Could that be correct and is a new Engine the only solution?
Is there anything I should ask them before getting a second opinion? Thanks

That's not much info to go on to need a whole engine. What tests were done with what results? If nothing but what you posted you should seek better help to determine what to do - fix more likely if any care has been given to this car and engine over the years but never say never either,

That just totally depends on what the reason for the misfire is. If that cylinder has lost compression for some reason, then there is a very good chance the motor is pretty much trash.

If it's a simple ignition or injector problem, that would be easily repaired.
