Greetings everyone,

I am preparing myself to replace my dead engine currently on my car, doing this work on my driveway and I am looking for advice /step by step how, or a resource I could get to guide me in order to be able to do this work from the top and not the bottom, since I do not have a lift. Most people insist it can only be done from the bottom but I did found references on people who has done it from the front, but unfortunately those people provided very little details on how they did it.. they just mentioned that they removed the front bumper, radiator...

I also wanted to know if the transmission needs to come out with the engine as well? Would it be easier to leave it as I am trying to pull the engine from the top?

Your advice is greatly appreciated,

You have no clue what kind of job this is. You cannot do this in your driveway. The entire subframe and transmission has to be lowered from below before the engine will come out from the top.

Once you start stripping this down and realize how far over your head you are, no other shop is going to want to finish what you started and you will be in a total mess.

Hammer Time,

With all do respect, you have no idea of who I am and what training and experience I have... It is true I am not familiar with this particular car and that is the reason I am now here asking for how to do this project... I am not asking how it cannot be done...

Could you provide me with some useful information?

Many thanks

The most useful information I can give you is that you will regret attempting this. I don't need to know what you are capable of because I know what it will take to do this and none of these things can safely be done in your driveway.

Point taken,

Since you know what it will take to do this project, can you share that information? I will then consider how it can be safely... I am willing to get any tools, except a lift, to get this done.

Well, a lift is the first thing you need. The car needs to be lifted away from the subframe and transmission.

By a lift do you mean a car jack?

No, of course not. The car needs to be slowly lifted off the frame in a straight, controlled motio

How high does it have to be lifted?

For a person with knowledge willing to share it with everyone you are very opinionated and judgemental!

Why can you just share the information and let me worry about the implementation?

Sorry, I'm busy on another site trying to get some instruction so I can do my wife's heart surgery in my basement and some doctor is telling me I'm not equipped to do that.

Thank you for been so unhelpful... like I said opinionated and judgmental.

Take note that this project has been done in a driveway before but it was 2004 Pacifica 3.5L very successfully. Good luck with your wife's surgery!
