Hi, I have a 2007 Toyota RAV4 V6 (50k miles). I took it to the dealership for an oil change. They told me (and wrote down) that "the engine front cover was leaking oil". It would cost $2900 to fix. I asked to see where the leak was and they said they would have to lift the car again. I didn't have time to do this so I just took the car home. I'll take it somewhere else for a second opinion, but it would be useful to know what this diagnostic means. Could someone explain what is the engine front cover, and what could be the reasons for the oil leak? I haven't actually seen the leak yet. I checked oil level a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't low. I'll put some cardboard under the car tonight to see how much it may be leaking. thanks! Peter

The front cover is the timing chain cover. It is a big job but get a second opinion to see if they are exaggerating. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
