2008 Jeep GC Diesel shutting down

r the past 3-4 years I have has the same recurring proble with my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3.0 diesel. It has been to the shop numerous times, with no solution. While driving, the vehicle will all of a sudden shut down, you can throw it into neutral and it will start right up again. There is no pattern to when this happens, it could be once in 2-4 months or twice a week. It has mostly happened when driving around town BUT for the first time last week it did this while highway driving. I am very concerned, as I worry that one of these days when this happens I am going to get hit. I have tried to come up with exactly what is happening before it shuts down. The only thing that comes to mind is maybe it happens when you take your foot off accelerator and then reaccelerate. It seems it has happened just after going around corner, slowing down to yield etc, but then it did it on the highway. However that day it had been raining lots and there where many potholes in that highway and I am wondering if I did take foot off accelerator and then reaccelerate. I would be most grateful if someone out there knows how to fix this problem!!
