2008 Mercury Mountaineer 4.0L v6 AWD, ~145k miles. It's been working okay lately, considering. Now power steering pump pulley stops turning when I turn the wheel while the A/C is on. No steering boost while A/C compressor is engaged.

Replaced tensioner, idler, and belt. Applied belt dressing to the new belt. Power steering pulley still comes to a stop with the A/C on when I turn the wheel. Now the alternator sometimes stops--battery light comes on--when the A/C is on. Any ideas?

That was a big mistake. You just ruined the new belt.

This really doesn't make a lot of sense since the AC has more resistance and should the the one stopping.

Does this thing have any oil or coolant leaks?

This pretty much has to be a Belt/tensioner issue, even though you already changed them.

If the alternator stops also, then it's not a PS problem. Take a hard look at the crank pulley and make sure the rubber part of the balancer isn't broken causing the pulley to slip.
