2012 chevy cruze eco overheated then shut off Sign In

I have a 2012 chevy cruze eco with 129,000 miles. I was driving on the freeway and was 20 miles shy of completing a 3 hour trip when all of a sudden I heard alarm and noticed the flashing on the dash display. Immediatly i pull over to the shoulder and before i can stop the vehicle to turn off, it shut off by itself. The dash displayed the engine overheated and to idle engine. The temp gauge needle was all the way to the max of the reading. Just before it shut off, the car briefly sputtered along with a clunky sound. I got out and opened the hood to find smoke coming out the engine. The smoke appeared to be coming out of the bottom of the engine block towards the back. The car turns over but will not start. Any help will be greatly appreciated as i have no experience in mechanics.

Bummer. That level of an overheat could mean a new engine is more practical. It needs pressure testing to at least see where leak was to cause this OVERHEATS can be engine fatal so needs a real tech help you make the call of fix or replace that one.

Suks to all of us that warnings are not early and clear what to do. Overheating warning is way too late in everything I know of,

Yep, aluminum engines can't handle that much heat.

Sarcastic and not funny for this OP - aluminum isn't for engines, game over quickly no fixes.

But it really helps with MPGs and faster warm up time at the cost of a whole engine later! IDK, Where's Clara Pella(sp?) and "Where's The Beef" in some ideas out there?
