2014 Cadillac SRX Won’t Crank After Collision

Hey All! Need some help or suggestions. I’m in the process of rebuilding a 2014 SRX that was hit in the front. Opening the door the display is on, however when I press the start button it just shuts off and flashes the check engine light. It does NOT crank or make any noises, so it doesn’t appear that it even attempting to start. Initially I thought the easy stuff, fuses, relays, and battery. I checked all the fuses and relays they seemed fine. I swapped the battery with a new one to provide consistent voltage, not no avail... The engine appears to be in perfect condition and doesn’t appear to have any external damage, the airbags were NOT deployed in the car, so I’m narrowed down to a possible ECU issue or possibly an odd factor that I’m not considering. is there any rebuilders out there with experience in a similar situation? thanks in advance.

Have you done a complete scan here including body and restraint modules? Are you getting any dash messages when you attempt to start it? Have you monitored a scan tool to be sure the PCM is seeing it in Park/Neutral? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Get a wire brush and clean all the connections at the battery. Take all the grounds apart and clean those as well..... Even if they look good

So we scanned the modules and were able to communicate with just about everything besides the ECM and TCM. We’ve moved it in and out of gear, so I’m not thinking it’s not fully in Park. One odd thing is the lift gate won’t go up. The computer indicates the car is going to fast to open. So obviously something isn’t sensing the car is in park and not moving

Scanning for codes is not how you determine if the Transmission position sensor is working properly. You need to look at data in the scan tool. There should be a PID that tells you what position the gearshift selector is in.

The tool is able show show the vehicle is in park from the BCM, but cannot connect the TCM.

That could be a problem. I'm assuming there is a communication issue with the data bus and not a problem with the scan tool? You really need to know why there is no communication with the TCM. Were there any "U" codes in any of the modules? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Yes, there were 3 “U” codes U0100-00-Loss Comm with ECM U010-00- Loss Comm with TCM U0402-71- Invalid Data from TCM

OK, those were important facts to leave out of your question. Obviously it should have a lot of verification testing but it sounds like you may have a bad TCM. Test all the powers and grounds into it first. Then make sure you have to harness damage.

Would you happen to have or know where I can locate a pinout wiring schematic?

Great, thank you. So we checked the voltage to the TCM plug, I have 11.6 volts to the red/green wire and vio/black wire with reference to both black/white negatives. The only other wires are the data wires. That would indicate that the TCM is bad with no communication to the BCM but that still doesn’t answer why I have no comm to the ECM.

You still could have a data line or ground problem elsewhere in the car.

So it appears to be to be an issue with the TCU, and since the module is within the transmission casing I’m guessing it would be best to replace the entire transmission. Do you know if the transmission would need to be programmed to the vehicle or would it be plug and play?

The TCM is incorporated into the valve body and solenoid pack and is serviceable in the car. You can buy an OEM part for around $350 but it will need programming. https://www.rockauto.com/...trol+unit+(tcu),8480 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

We had looked into just replacing the TCM, but after inquiring about the cost with our local GM dealer they quoted us $1000 To program it. I’m just a little worried that he impact jarred something else and maybe just a complete swap would be better suited since I can get a transmission for about 1200. Do you know if a complete transmission from another SRX would need to be programmed? I’m hoping it would be plug and play

Yes, I would expect it will need programming to your VIN# ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
