'83 dodge ram, 225 slant six, one barrel holly carb. engine idles fine ,but when i hold the brake and put the throttle all the way down in drive the truck just bogs down. smells like its getting plenty of fuel,i've adjusted the air needle seat in and out and cant get any improvement. slowly give it the gas while rolling down the road, and it will pick up speed eventully . doesnt backfire the book says 16 btc, distrib wont turn that far, only 12 btc carbs been rebuilt twice, once lately. new fuel filter ,clean fuel i just dont know.

Is the accelerator pump giving a full steady stream when the throttle is opened slowly? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

woitw Look for accel pump action at Hammer said. Most stuff was adjustable on that carb. You say you can't turn dist to get proper timing then it should be able to be removed and put back one tooth such that you have the right range. Also: Even the slant six can eat timing chains when older! Check how many degress of lash it has no to exceed about 5 degrees. Idle mix screw(s) should be happy at about 2.5 to 3 turns out from bottom and shouldn't be messing them if idle is ok now, T

accel pump delivers no fuel if moved slowly, or very little at end of movement good stream if moved quickly with engine off

Sounds like some carb problems. The accelerator pump at the least is not working properly.

Hard to add to Hammer but it hasn't stopped me yet :-) Have you checked for exhaust restriction? An easy way is to watch intake manifold vacuum at idle and again at no load ~2,000 RPM and it should be the same roughly. If way off loosen a pipe (pre-converter) and drive it - it all improves just for the test a restriction can cause a ton of issues - carbs get confused!! T
