Customer/Friend has an 86 Country Squire (same as Crown Vic) with the upper plenum 5.0. Car has been skipping for a year. I am the mechanic but of course it quits doing it in front of me! It's been wet here and now the problem is worse. TMK we have ruled out plugs, cap, rotor and wires and I have suspected a vacuum leak of some sort which I can't find. It's done this with two different distributors and two different EGR valves. Skip was/is mostly noticed at part throttle. I'm beginning to think it has a hair line crack in a valve which would mean "Game Over" for this car. Question is... Has this happened to anyone out there? If so - what fixed it? It has me stumped and I am an ASE certified tech. TIA for any ideas,

Got a chance to work on it couple hours today, seems we found the trouble. Checked hard for vac leaks, and tons of other checks didn't fix it. Car was getting bad with this. Replaced the PCV, but I'm sure that wasn't it. Took out the little plug that you do to set timing on these and problem went away. TMK that defeats automatic timing adjustment, so I blaming whatever controls automatic timing. I may just leave it this way or alter timing off spec to keep it running well. It's a now junky old car so nobody is going to spend big bucks on it. If anyone know what device controls the timing on these I'd like to know as I still work on a few of these and if it happens again I don't wan't to waste as much time as I did with this one. Thanks,
