i have an 86 honda crx that will not start. took it out and let some guys mess with it and it wont fire up now. ok so here is what it does. and it does have a carb. when i crank it over it will not fire but it will burn the gas in the exhaust. back fireing. the timing marks on the cam shaft are not of any others i can find. it is a d15. all the manuals i have say that there is the word up on it but not on mine. and im frustirated. i have tried it both ways with the two marks at 3 and 9. both ways level with the head nothing. i am getting fuel and spark. still nothing. if anyone has any ideas please let me know

Is this to suggest somebody did something to the car and now you have poor to no spark? By any freaking chance does this have points? Some vehicles for export were different set ups and can't speak for which ones got what if so. It should indicate it meets or exceeds emissions for USA and or Calif underhood would be a good clue if you can read it and say certain specs, T

it does not have points. it is a hornet race car and i was going to let one of the top hornet drivers drive it. i started it up and drove it onto the trailer and started it up and drove it off the trailer. i went over right before the race cause i was running a higher class and they wad the timing belt off and they put it back on and nothing. they said the adjusted the timing and the carb to make it go faster. but even then i cant find any adjustments on the carb. so i know they did something just dont know what. neither do they. im a chevy or ford guy i know nothing about hondas.

Timing belt if found off in many cars called "interference engines" is the demise of the valves at least if not more. Don't have a listing for this engine but most HP engines will near self destruct if belt slips or breaks, Sorry, T

A compression test would help to diagnose this, T

Like Tom said, you may want to run a quick compressiong test. Sure seems like if it ran before the t belt, then that would be the problem area. Strange you don't have "up" at least you have the 2 side marks. You could always go old school, pull the v/c cover and look at the valves to make sure you up on #1. You may wanna just cover your bases on the basics. Look for unplugged connectors, disconnected grounds & check all the fuses.............
